About the Name ‘U-Kiss’

• MC: Who created the name?
• Soohyun: Our staff came up with it.
• MC: Didn’t Soohyun make it up? It sounds like a Soohyun-style name.
• Soohyun: Our company representative felt that adding the word “kiss” as part of the group’s name was a good idea. Something like “I want to kiss you…” and after our CEO thought about it, he decided on the name ‘U-Kiss’. However, the meaning of the acronym (aka what ‘U-Kiss’ stands for) – Ubiquitous Korean International Idol Super Star, was something that we came up with ourselves.

Who’s the best at kissing?

• Basically, they didn’t really answer this question, but instead Soohyun turned the question around and asked the MC who she wants a kiss from the most out of the 7, and she pointed to Soohyun.

Why did U-Kiss debut in Japan first as opposed to Korea?

• Soohyun: We wanted to live up to our name, that U-Kiss is an international group. The company representative wanted their debut to be a little bit more special, plus U-Kiss was invited to perform once on a live stage before they debuted.

Which cuisine does U-Kiss prefer? Japanese or Korean?

• AJ: In all truth, I can’t choose.
• MC: Do you like mom better or dad better?
• Soohyun: Right. Do you prefer mom or dad? (T/N: He meant that’s how difficult the question was, choosing between your parents.)
• Dongho: Do you prefer Jjajanmyun (Black Bean Noodles) or Jjambbong (Spicy Seafood Noodles)?
• MC: I like Jjajanmyun.
• Soohyun: Jjambbong.
• Dongho laughs.
• MC: Let’s just say Jjajanmyun then.
• Dongho: Alright. [We like] Jjajanmyun. Jjajanmyun.

What is the general age range of U-Kiss’ fans?

• Soohyun: It’s very widely spread – from 5 yr. old children to grandmothers (halmoni).

Is there a member that the halmoni (grandmother) fans like the most? Who?

• Eli: Yes, there is.
• Dongho: It’s ELI!
• Eli: No, it’s not me. It’s Soohyun!
• MC: So Eli suits the halmoni fans’ style.
• Soohyun: I’m ajumma’s style. The ajumma fans like me, and the halmoni fans like Eli.
• MC: What about college students?
• AJ (to Eli): You don’t like it?
• (T/N: Eli answered some back, but Soohyun was talking over him.)
• Soohyun: The children tend to like Kevin, Dongho and Kiseop.
• MC: Because they’re cute?
• Soohyun: Yes, they’re cute.
• Dongho: When we get to shake our fans’ hands in concerts, there are families of three generations – grandmother, mother, and daughter, that come to see us together. The grandmother would be Eli’s fan, the mother would be Soohyun’s fan, and the daught would be Kevin’s fan.
• MC: That must be really exciting?
• Eli: When we have signing events or fan meetings, there will be fans coming all the way from Busan to Seoul by plane.
• MC: By plane?
• Eli: Yeah, they take the plane, then the bus to go to the events, then wait for a day and go back.
• MC: So people that like U-Kiss are rich then!?
• Soohyun: Please don’t say it like that!
• Eli: They’re just hard-working people.
• MC: Why?
• Eli: They’re just hard-working fans.
• Soohyun: (laughing uncontrollably) Rich people liking U-Kiss…
• MC: Well, if they don’t have money, they wouldn’t be able to afford taking a plane, right?
• Eli: They’re just hard-working fans!
• Soohyun: There are a lot of people that like us that are very hard-working.

About collaborating with a new composer/producer

• MC: After hearing the songs this time, the feeling seems different from your songs in the past. You’ve been working with Brave Brothers for your past albums, right? This time, I heard you’ve been working with someone else?
• Soohyun: We worked with the composer, Kim Tae Hyun.
• MC: Why? Did you guys and Brave Brothers have a fight?
• Dongho: Why did you suddenly say that under this kind of environment…?
• MC: I was just curious.
• Soohyun: We… erm… how to say this… We’ve already picked out a good song from Brave Brothers. We’re just preparing for it right now. We received the song, and are recording it, since we’ve worked together so many times before, so gradually, we wanted to be more efficient when working together.

• Soohyun: ‘gong sam sam gong’

What kind of song is ‘0330’?

• MC: ‘0330’… the name is very different from the pervious titles as well. What kind of song is it? Please give a brief explanation.
• MC: Hoon! Why haven’t you said anything at all? Are you afraid of noona?
• Hoon: Err… yeah. Noona is a little scary. (Turns serious) First of all, 0330 is sad hip-hop. It’s a sorrowful song. Therefore… with us… like that… let’s say… (T/N: he’s stuttering) You can’t forget your ex-girlfriend. You can’t ever forget her, and remembers every moment you spent with her, something like that. Well… sorrowful.
• Dongho: His lips are trembling…
• AJ: It’s because noona is looking very intensely at Hoon right now…
• MC: Why? I was looking at Hoon lovingly!
• Hoon: That’s even scarier.

About the music of 0330

• Soohyun: We wanted to change our image. In terms of music, we wanted people to recognize U-Kiss’ real strength, so we chose music that can show our strength. It’s a very somber type of music. It’s a nice song to listen to at night when it’s raining. It’s a song with a great melody, and the piano accompaniment is also amazing.
• AJ: The lyrics are simply a work of art!
• Soohyun: Also, the lyrics are written by our AJ. That’s why he got paid for production (writing the lyrics) this time.
• MC: Wow, AJ got paid for writing!? So did he treat you guys to a meal or something?
• Soohyun: He hasn’t recently.
• Eli: No, he hasn’t at all!
• Dongho: Not even once. Not even once!

• U-Kiss will release a Japanese version of 0330/Bran New Kiss in late August (the article says around August 24th) This will be released after their Japanese promotions, which are going on right now for 3 months.

• They will release a Japanese single in December with a full-fledged national tour.

This is from awhile ago, but I found Chinese subs for that ‘Infinity Girls’ episode that U-Kiss was on (the one where Kevin got angry/annoyed at AJ after AJ imitated him being girly), so I thought I’d just translate some key highlights.

Just a heads-up : since I’m translating from the Chinese subs, it’s probably not as accurate as someone translating straight from Korean (in between all the translating, there are bound to be something lost due to different interpretations etc.), so read with a grain of salt. :)
